COVID-19 update: 18 Tablighi Jamaat attendees quarantined in Tripura

Agartala: There is no coronavirus positive case in Tripura till Thursday but the State government is not in a mood to loosen its grip over the measures taken to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. The Tripura government has taken 18 persons to institutional quarantine who returned after attending the Tablighi Jamaats congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi. Dr Deep Debbarma, State Surveillance Officer told the reporters that they have found a few more names after interrogating them and a search is going to locate them.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is personally monitoring the corona preventive measures as well as the distribution of relief materials to the distressed people especially those who have lost jobs or out of work due to lockdown. The State government has already declared free ration for one month to all BPL and special category families for one month.

Meanwhile, all the district authorities issued fresh warning against any violation of lockdown rules and detained 139 persons till Wednesday for violating the restrictions imposed by the administration, especially coming out of the home without a specific reason.

Manik Das, Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) told reporters that police are keeping a close watch on the situation and no violation will be tolerated. The police have detained 47 bike and scooters that came out on the streets without any specific reason.
