CPI(M) protest against assault on ex-minister Bhanu Lal Saha in Tripura

Agartala: Police arrested one person for allegedly involved in assaulting the former Finance Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Bhanu Lal Saha on Thursday at Bishalghar when polling for the by-election of vacant seats of the municipality was going on.

On the next day another senior leader the state secretary of the CPI(M) Gautam Das also was allegedly harassed by a group of BJP supporters on the same spot when he was returning from a party program. According to allegation they attackers tried to stop his car and to pull him out but he was escaped driver did not stop and speed away.

Though police has arrested a BJP supporter Saikat Das in Bhanu Lal Saha case they are yet to take any action against the accused persons involved in attack on Gautam Das. The CPI(M) alleged that though the attackers are freely roaming in the area police is not taking any action though specific complaint has been filed with the concerned police station.

Polling for the by-election of the vacant civic body seats were held on December 27 and the counting took place on the next day. Out of 67 seats for which election was held BJP won 66 and only one went in favour of CPI(M).

Since the election was over reports of violence is coming from different parts of the state and many cases has been filed with the police. CPI(M) alleged that senior party leaders are also not being spared and several of them including party's Unokoti district committee secretary Krishnendu Choudhury were attacked.

The CPI(M) has organised a protest rally on Saturday in Agartala and demanded immediate arrest of the accused persons.
