Agartala: Dissidence resurfaced in the Bokafa Panchayat Samity as six of the nine BJP members submitted a letter to the District Panchayat Officer expressing no-confidence at the incumbent Chairman Sridam Das leading to serious deterioration in the functioning of the Panchayat Samity.
Abhijit Mitra, the vice chairman of the samity, also was among the six signatories in the no-confidence letter. The dissidents claim one more member is supporting their move but could not sign the letter as he is out of station.
Dissidence in the Bokafa Panchayat Samity was going on from the beginning when the BJP leadership nominated Sridam Das for the post of the Chairman ignoring the opinion of eight other members. They even elected Debasish Bhawmik as Chairman defying the party whip.
Subsequently, Bhowmik had to resign following party instruction and Sridam Das was elected as Chairman following a party whip but that failed to subside the dissidence.
Several Gao-Panchayat and Panchayat Samities witnessed similar dissidence in their ranks but the BJP leadership doused the fire with instructions from State committee. Now what step the party takes in case of Bokafa is to be seen.
