Panchayat chief facing a no-confidence motion from the members in Tripura

Agartala: One more Panchayat Samity chairman belonging to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is facing a no-confidence motion from the members belonging to her own party. Dissident members have already submitted a letter to the district Panchayat Officer Sabyasachi Sinha who is likely to convene a meeting of the Panchayat Samity within the next few days to settle the issue.

It is learned that nine of the thirteen members of the Bamutia RD Block Panchayat Samity have signed the no-confidence motion against the Chairperson, Shila Das. It is learned that the dissident members accused her of arbitrary nature of functioning and not giving due importance to the recommendations of the members.

The sudden development has surprised many as during the tenure of the present samity, more man-days were created under MGNREGA project. Construction and improvement of several roads also has been undertaken. Sections in the BJP apprehend some external influence behind the development.

Bamutia Panchayat Samity comprise of 20 Gao Sabhas out of which 15 falls under Bamutia Assembly Constituency and the 5 rest in Barjala Assembly Constituency. MLA's of both the constituency – Dr Dilip Das and Krishnadhan Das– have become active to defuse the tension and are contacting all the dissident members.
