Reang Refugee Leaders in Aizawl to Meet CM Zoramthanga

Agartala: As the process to identify the Reang refugees staying in six camps of North Tripura district is progressing smoothly, a feeling of social insecurity is increasing among the refugee leaders who spent a lavish life for many years.

Realizing that the repatriation of refugees are imminent as the Central Government has taken a strong stand, the refugee leaders are now searching new pastures to ensure their social security and trying to get some political rehabilitation.

It is learnt that the refugee leaders including Bruno Mesha, secretary of the Mizoram Bru Displaces Peoples’ Forum, are now staying at Aizawl and waiting for an interview with the Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

It is learnt that the leaders are pursuing for some prestigious position in the administration where the repatriated refuges will be rehabilitated. They also reportedly propose to join the ruling party of the State – the Mizo National Front.

Though five days have passed in Aizawl, they are yet to get a time from the Chief Minister raising many questions about their future. However, MBDPF secretary Bruno Mesha told a reporter over phone that they are waiting in Aizawl to discuss with the Chief Minister about the logistics after the refugees return.

Meanwhile, the work for identification of refugees is going on smoothly. Official sources said the identification process has already been completed in four of the six camps.
