Agartala: Security forces has intensified vigil along bordering areas in Subroom of South Tripura district following reports that a large number of Rohingya refugees has assembled on the other side of the border at Ramghar in Chittagram Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and trying to cross over to India.

According to reports, the Rohingyas are keeping contact with their Indian conduits and aiming to cross the border during the coming Durga Puja days when the entire population in this part will be in a festive mood and the border vigil is likely to be less compared to normal times. The Rohingyas crossed over to Bangladesh from neighbouring Myanmar since August 25, 2017 following some communal clashes and was given shelter by the Bangladesh Government on humanitarian grounds. Now these refugees have become a headache for the Bangladesh government as they are getting involved in various crimes and causing social problems.

Earlier, the Rohingyas tried to sneak into India using an unfenced patch of the border from Aliamara to Kathalchari in Subroom along the Fenny River.

Construction of fencing in this patch was halted due some dispute with Bangladesh. However, the Bangladesh government has recently withdrawn their objection and the preparation for construction of barbed wire fencing also has been initiated.
