Tripura: 76 Underprivileged and Meritorious Students Receive One-Time Financial Aid

Since its inception in 2015, the Trust has supported nearly 300 students through similar financial aid.

AGARTALA: The Umapada Barman Anjali Barman Charitable Trust provided one-time financial assistance to 76 underprivileged and meritorious students in a ceremony on January 12, where each student received ₹7,000 as part of the initiative.

The Trust extended aid to 56 students, with retired professor Alpana Sengupta and retired architect Ranen Dasgupta providing financial assistance of ₹7,000 each to an additional 20 students. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, retired Tripura High Court Justice Satyagopal Chattopadhyay, Trust Secretary Subrata Debbarman, and President Dr. Samar Das handed over the cheques.

The event also honored the women footballers of the Kailashahar Phulo Jhano Athletic Club with floral garlands and five footballs. Additionally, Nilanjan Dutta, who has overcome physical disabilities to set an extraordinary example, was felicitated with garlands and a collection of books.

Speaking on the occasion, a family member of Umapada Barman and Anjali Barman highlighted their simple, honest, and selfless lives, which inspired the establishment of the Trust. Since its inception in 2015, the Trust has supported nearly 300 students through similar financial aid.

The event, held at the Students’ Health Home, also featured a musical performance by Samanta Saha and was gracefully hosted by Deepradeedhiti Roy Barman. The program concluded with a message of hope and support for the students, encouraging them to overcome challenges and achieve their dreams. "Students are like the morning sun, destined to light up the future," the organizers emphasized.
