AGARTALA: In a joint operation of the Assam Rifles, Police and Tripura Forest Service (TFS), a large cannabis plantation worth Rs 3.5 crore was detected and destroyed during the early hours of the day in the hilly and dense forests in Tripura.

Known as a large-scale center for illicit cannabis farming, the plantation which covered a vast area within the rural forest had been identified in intelligence reports. Security forces quickly moved in, coordinating to demolish large swathes of the crop in a matter of hours. The operation was carried out in difficult conditions of terrain and dense vegetation in the area.

The operation, led by Assam Rifles, which has rich experience in counter-insurgency and law and order duties. Officials pointed out that border regions like Tripura, which are close to Bangladesh and Myanmar, often serve as transit points for illegal narcotics, making such operations critical to disrupting drug trafficking networks.

Authorities destroyed crops worth around Rs 3.5 crore that were linked to the global illegal drug trade. They emphasized the long-term damage of drug trafficking to society and the economy, such as addiction and more crime.

Officers hailed the operation as a huge success and appreciated the joint exercise between the Assam Rifles, the Police and TFS. They also highlighted the importance of sustained vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies to counter the constantly evolving tactics of drug cartels.

Community engagement was emphasized as a key factor in the battle against narcotics. Residents were encouraged to report any suspicious activities, as their assistance is vital in identifying and dismantling illegal operations.

This successful mission is a part of a wider initiative which aimed at boosting border security and increasing surveillance in regions vulnerable to drug trafficking.
