AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stressed the importance of Northeast to India's development while attributing the growth in the region to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While delivering a speech at a public gathering, Saha said, "The potential of the Northeast was long being ignored, but the Prime Minister has always stated that India cannot develop itself until and unless this region advances.
He also underlined efforts at peace building and cited that 12 historic accords were signed that have successfully removed terrorism from the Northeast. He is hopeful that this stability would bring substantial investments to states like Tripura.
Addressing the persisting challenges in India-Bangladesh relations, Saha conceded that Bangladesh is currently unstable but was optimistic about its resolution. He welcomed the expected completion of the Akhaura rail line, calling it a project that would benefit both countries by connecting them and cooperating with each other.
At the Cooperation Conference in Agartala, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present, Saha announced the state government’s plans to create 219 additional cooperative societies and 741 multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies. He also launched and inaugurated eight new projects aimed at strengthening the cooperative sector.
Saha highlighted Tripura’s economic growth, citing an 8.9% increase in GSDP and a rise in per capita income from ₹1.54 lakh in 2023 to ₹1.77 lakh in 2024. He insisted on healthy competition among the states of Northeast to further take economic development to a better height, and he pointed out that the cooperative sector would play a central role to achieve this goal. Thakur Saha, being thankful to PM Modi and Amit Shah, said it was a step toward making "Vikshit Bharat" a reality.
