AGARTALA: Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha on Monday asserted that the government of Tripura would never allow the return of militancy to the state, and law enforcement machinery is on the job to address the issues that had been reported recently.
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the second Agartala Government Nursing College batch, Dr. Saha said, “Recently I came across a statement indicating that insurgency is on the rise in Tripura again. The law enforcement agencies are on the job to tackle the situation. Our government will never allow it to happen.”
According to the Chief Minister, there was a time when Tripura used to have only six to seven medical seats and one dental seat but now the state is providing 400 medical seats.
"The Tripura Medical College authorities have informed me that they have also applied to expand their seat strength with an additional 50 seats. Once approved, we will have 450 MBBS seats in total. The number of nursing seats has also increased substantially," he added.
“As per the standard rule, we need to have one doctor for one thousand people. We are yet to match that. I hope we will be able to touch the national average soon with new doctors coming up from the new colleges set up here,” Dr. Saha further added.
