
AGARTALA: There has been yet another report of a minor girl being gang-raped in Tripura in just a week. This time, five youths abducted a minor girl in the South Tripura district on December 14 and gang raped her.
The girl was reportedly kidnapped from her house and brought to a rubber plantation in the Mahondaira neighbourhood of Paikhola, where the five accused allegedly gang-raped her all night long.
Upon returning home the following morning, the minor girl told her mother about the incident. Her family later filed a complaint at the Santir Bazaar Police Station. Following the complaint, police began an investigation, took witness accounts, and evaluated the victim medically.
Inspector Asutosh Sarma, the officer-in-charge of the Santir Bazaar Police Station, stated that five suspects had been taken into custody in relation to the case based on the description of the victim's mother. Shaktirai Reang (18), Nibas Tripura (19), Subhash Reang (19), Lakshidhan Tripura (18), and Jiban Tripura (21) are the names of the apprehended suspects.
On Sunday, they were presented to the Bilonia District and Sessions Court. Manpathar Outpost's OC Jayanta Das has been given the responsibility to handle this case.
In accordance with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, which addresses aggravated sexual assault against minors, and pertinent provisions of the BNS 2023 law, which indicate serious violations related to the crime, a complaint has been filed.
Previously, in the Irani Police Station neighbourhood of Kailashahar, which is located in the Unakoti district of Tripura, two youths gang-raped a minor girl on December 8.
Police quickly took action and detained the two in relation to the matter. Two Samurpara Gram Panchayat residents, Faruk Uddin (35), and Manik Miah (25), had been identified as the people who were arrested.
