AGARTALA: To tackle electricity theft in the state, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has intensified its efforts to crack down on the illegal use of hook lines. As part of this initiative, TSECL has introduced a dedicated helpline to encourage the public to report such activities.

A senior TSECL official underscored the dangers of illegal hook lines, explaining that they not only pose serious risks to public safety but also result in power outages, fires, and substantial financial losses for the corporation.

“Law-abiding consumers are unfairly burdened with higher tariffs due to these unlawful activities. Our vigilance teams are conducting daily raids, seizing illegal equipment, and imposing fines to tackle this issue. Tragically, several areas in Tripura have witnessed accidents and fatalities caused by hook lines, yet the malpractice continues in certain parts of the state,” the official remarked.

TSECL is seeking public cooperation to address this issue. Citizens are encouraged to report instances of electricity theft by providing the location, address, and a photograph through WhatsApp at 9863596081.

“The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential to ensure their safety. This initiative empowers the public to play an active role in preventing electricity theft, allowing our vigilance teams to respond swiftly and effectively. The primary goal is to save lives, ensure public safety, and provide uninterrupted power supply to all consumers,” the official stated.

TSECL has urged citizens to stay alert and report any instances of electricity theft. Through decisive action, the corporation aims to improve service efficiency, ensure equitable access to electricity, and enhance public safety throughout Tripura.
