Agartala: Doctors community in the state expressed grave resentment over the unprovoked attack on one of their peers Dr Nayan Das at Bir Chandra Nagar Primary Health Centre in Shantir Bazar sub-division on Tuesday night and the All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association has demanded immediate arrest of the accused. The two attackers have been identified as Ranjit Reang and Karendra Reang and a case have been registered against them with the local police station but the accused are yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, out of anger and fear Dr Nayan Das has left the place causing serious disruption of health services in the locality. Local people also demanding immediate arrest of the accused and steps must be taken to restore normal health services in the locality. The entire episode started when two accomplices of a patient went to the PHC on Tuesday night and got infuriated finding that the doctor is not in his quarter adjacent to the hospital.

After receiving the call from the PHC he immediately came out of his quarter and was attacked by the accused persons. As per rule a doctor on call is suppose to be in his quarter at night and to attend the hospital whenever there is a call. The attackers were not ready to accept any logic and were pressurizing to refer the patient.

The patient was a minor school boy who was trying to commit suicide by consuming acid out of frustration for his failure in the Madhyamik test examination. Other members of the house noticed that the boy is going to consume acid and when they tried to prevent him few drops fell on his body causing injury.
