GUWAHATI: Assam completed their campaign in the 36th National Games in style winning two gold medals on the concluding day of the competition. Both the medals came in boxing and were won by Lovlina Borgohain and Ankushita Boro respectively.

Lovlina, Tokyo2020 bronze medallist, got her jabs and combination punches working to perfection against Haryana's Sweety Boora to cap her National Games debut with a memorable gold.

Lovlina Borgohain was happy with the switch to the 75kg division after the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. "I wanted to test myself in the new weight category. It isn't easy to come back after an injury but I pushed myself to be match fit for the Asian Championships," an elated Lovlina said.

Earlier, former Asian Youth champion Ankushita Boro got Assam's campaign to a flying start by clinching the gold medal in a one-sided women's 66kg welterweight final against fellow Northeast boxer Alena Thounaojam (Manipur). Ankushita was all class against her unheralded opponent.

With these two gold medals Assam boxing team took their medal tally to five.

Meanwhile Assam finished at 14th place in the medal tally in the 36th National Games which concluded on Wednesday. Among the 28 medals 9 are gold, 10 are silver and 9 are bronze medals. Assam participated in 21 disciplines in the game and 7 of them were successful to win medals. As expected Team lawn bowls made the best performance in the Games and gave Assam eight medals that included three gold. Swimming is in second place with six medals. Assam also won medal in Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Weightlifting and Wushu.
