GUWAHATI: Assam is all set to make its mark in the upcoming Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), scheduled to be held in Bihar from May 2. A strong contingent comprising 105 athletes and 30 support staff will represent the state, participating across 17 sporting disciplines. In a spirited send-off ceremony held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati on Wednesday, the official team jersey was unveiled and the contingent was ceremonially flagged off. Volleyball and kabaddi team will first depart on Thursday to take part in the Games.
The flagg-off ceremony event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries including KJ Hillaly, Special Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Arjuna award-winning archer Jayanta Talukdar, Navajyoti Basumatary, the chef de mission for the Assam team, Dr Neet Harit Kaushik, Assistant Director, Sports and Youth Welfare and Anup Konwar, weightlifting coach. Assam will compete in the 17 disciplines in the forthcoming Games and these are: Swimming, Athletics, Weightlifting, Cycling, Thang Ta, Yogasana, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Gymnastics, Judo, Mallakhamb, Sepak Takraw, Boxing, and Shooting.
