GUWAHATI: A brilliant spell from Ayushman Malakar (6/21) guided Assam to their first win of the Namibia tour. The side defeated Namibia XI by three wickets on Monday.
Invited to bat first, Namibia XI struggled and were bowled out for just 178 in 42.1 overs. Malakar was outstanding with the ball, taking wickets at regular intervals. After Mrinmoy Dutta made an early breakthrough by dismissing opener Zane for a duck, Malakar ran through the innings, claiming one wicket after another. His 10-over spell, which yielded figures of 6/21, set a new record for the best bowling performance in the series. J. Smith (61) and Frylinck (47) were the main contributors with the bat for Namibia XI.
In response, Assam faced some challenges, losing wickets at regular intervals, but a couple of crucial partnerships finally took them to victory. Vital contributions with the bat came from veteran Sibsankar Roy (43), Sumit Ghadigaonkar (36), Rishav Das (33), and Saahil Jain (32). Assam chased down the target, finishing at 179/7 in 45.2 overs.
