GUWAHATI: The 70th Bordoloi Trophy (Final round) Football Competition will kick off at Judges Field here on Sunday, with the opening match scheduled for 4:30 PM.
This year, the Guwahati Sports Association has revamped the tournament format, dividing it into three phases. The first phase was held at the district level, and in the second phase, the district winners participated in the cluster phase. Two finalists from each cluster have now qualified for the final round. They will be joined by five teams: OIL FC, North East United FC, Shillong Lajong FC, NFRSA, and Pride East Mavericks.
NFRSA, who secured a direct entry into the final round as winners of the recently concluded Guwahati Premier League, will face Barekuri FC in the opening match.
Talking to The Sentinel, NFRSA coach Sushanta Majumdar shared his thoughts on the team’s preparation: “We have tried our best to build a good team for the competition. Some new players have joined our squad, and we hope to perform well in the tournament.”
Before the opening game, the Guwahati Sports Association will host an opening ceremony from 3-30PM. Jayanta Mallabarua, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation, and other departments, will be the chief guest at the event.
It may be mentioned here that the total prize money for the competition is Rs 80 lakh. The champion team will receive Rs 10 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded Rs 5 lakh.
