Liverpool Thump Bournemouth 9-0 for Record Win Sterling Brace Guides Chelsea to Win Against Leicester, Man U Win

LONDON, Aug 27: Liverpool put nine unanswered goals past a hapless AFC Bournemouth to secure its first win of the 2022-23 Premier League season at Anfield on Saturday. This was Liverpool's biggest win in the English top flight, matching the score line from its 1989 game against Crystal Palace.

The Jurgen Klopp-managed side began the rout in the second minute through a Luis Diaz header. Harvey Elliot doubled the lead with a long-range effort. By the half-time break, Liverpool was leading by 5-0, with goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk.

Bournemouth's misery was compounded soon after the restart when its defender Chris Mepham bundled in an Alexander-Arnold cross for an own goal.

Firmino was at the heart of five of the nine goals scored by the Reds. The Brazilian provided three assists and scored two goals himself to ensure Bournemouth's third defeat on a trot.

Diaz wrapped up the game when he headed in a corner from Konstantanios Tsimikas to equal his side's top-flight record.

Raheem Sterling bagged his first goal in Chelsea colours as his brace guided his team to a 2-1 win against Leicester City at the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had a horrible start to the game after Conor Gallagher was sent off in the 28th minute after being shown a second yellow card by referee Paul Tierney.

Chelsea, despite being a man down, showed no signs of backing off but neither team could score a goal in the first half.

Lady Luck shined on the Blues early in the second half after Sterling's shot took a heavy deflection off Leicester's Daniel Amartey and looped cruelly over keeper Danny Ward to make it 1-0.

Sterling scored the insurance goal and doubled Chelsea's lead in the 63rd minute. It was a brilliant attacking move as Reece James' whipping ball from the right-flank found Sterling who was in the right place at the right time to tap the ball inside the net.

Ayoze Perez came close to equalizing in the 87th minute but his effort hit the post.

The win keeps Chelsea in sixth with seven points from four matches.

Manchester United secured its first clean sheet on the Premier League 2022-23 season, winning 1-0 against Southampton at the St. Mary's Stadium on Saturday.

Bruno Fernandes' early goal in the second half proved to be the difference as Man United registered its first win on the road since February this year. Agencies
