AG Bengal become Zonal champions at ACA stadium, Barsapara

GUWAHATI: AG Bengal emerged as a champion of the IA & AD East Zone Cricket Tournament defeating AG Odisha by 27 runs in the final at ACA stadium, Barsapara on Thursday.

Batting first, the Bengal team managed 170 runs in stipulated 20 overs losing 9 wickets with the help of Gitimoy Basu’s 89. The opener faced only 50 balls to hit these runs with 12 fours and a six. Arvind Singh, Payas Ranjan Sinha, and Sumitosh Praharaj took two wickets each. In reply, AG Odisha started well by adding 44 runs for the opening wicket. But finally could score 143 runs in 20 overs losing 7 wickets. Arvind hit 38 while Payas Ranjan contributed 30.

Gitimoy Basu was adjudged as the player of the final while Govind Poddar got the Player of the tournament trophy. Best Batsman and Best Bowler trophies went to Aswani Kumar (AG Bihar) and Shesdeep Patra (AG Odisha) respectively.

Former Ranji player Rajesh Bora was the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony while convenor of the tournament Abdul Rauf of AG (A&E) Assam gave away the prizes.
