Ajoy Baruah wins All Assam Amateur Invitational Golf Championship in Digboi

DIGBOI: Retired Digboi AOD employee Ajoy Baruah (63) lifted the 47th All Assam Amateur Invitational Golf Championship title here at Digboi Golf Links on Sunday. While Baruah won the tourney for second time in gents catagory, Aahana Kshyap won the won the Championship in the ladies catagory.

Talking to The Sentinel, Baruah, expressed that unlike the first day event, he gave his best and made it possible to win the UAGA's prestigious title.

‘I had never hope that I could prevail well in the finals amidst the national professional and 3 members Elite groups as my first day game was one of the worst,’ he said.

‘Despite, my disasterous performance on the day 1, I played a natural game on the day 2 and it was satisfactory indeed though again my expectations.’

Two time winner Baruah was followed closely by his immediate rival Sandip Deb who played over 6 and 9  while Baruah played over 13 and 3 in the two-day event.

Baruah, who had joined the All Assam Amateur in 2016, had also won the Championship in 2017 beside sweeping the title for the 47th edition in 2025 is now eyeing on Guwahati event.

The event featured 130 participants from various locations including Canada, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Jorhat and UAGA members from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

‘8 caddie golfers also took part in the event - this is in line with UAGA's stated aim to promote golfers from this talented pool of individuals and hopefully result in sponsorship and support for these deserving golfers’, said Siddhartha Chaliha, the Secretary of the UGA during his interection with The Sentinel.

The tourney was being organized under the aegis of Upper Assam Golf Association (UAGA), Digboi Golf Links.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by the ED and HR head IOC Ajay Kaila, who gave away the prizes to the deserving winners. Kaila was also the patron of the event.

The C'ship had commenced earlier on Saturday morning.
