GUWAHATI: The two-day All Assam Inter-Institutional Taekwondo Championship 2026 got under way today at the Dr. T. Ao Indoor Stadium of Cotton University. Around 275 athletes from 60 educational institutions across Assam are participating in the championship.

The competition is being held in the Kyorugi, Junior, and Senior categories, featuring participants from Higher Secondary to Postgraduate levels.

The opening ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Ankur Bharali, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Dr. Ramesh Chandra Deka, and general secretary of All Assam Taekwondo Association Hiranya Saikia.

In his inaugural address, Sports Director Ankur Bharali extended his best wishes to the participating athletes. He also mentioned in his speech that that the Sports Department is giving importance to promote sports in the college and University levels and also providing financial assistance.

Additionally, Bharali informed that the flooring of the Dr. T. Ao Indoor Stadium at Cotton University was refurbished recently with maple wood.
