GUWAHATI: Sports Authority of India Sports Club (SAISC) registered a thrilling 4-2 victory over Sonapur Sports Association in the 70th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship (Kamrup Metro Leg) tie at the SAI Sports Complex here on Wednesday. SAISC’s Bishesh Rai stole the show with a remarkable hat-trick.
Both teams displayed attacking football from the outset. Despite Sonapur Sports Association’s spirited performance, missed chances cost them the game.
Bishesh Rai opened the scoring for SAISC in the 26th minute. Diganta Bordoloi doubled the lead in the 36th minute, capitalizing on a precise cross from Damiel Daimary who made a good run in the right wing and nicely crossed the ball. The unmarked Diganta expertly headed the ball past the goalkeeper.
SAISC extended their advantage in the 42nd minute when Sonapur’s defense failed to clear a loose ball inside the box. Bishesh pounced on the opportunity and slotted it into the net for his second goal.
Sonapur Sports Association managed to pull one back before halftime. In the 35th minute, Hemanta Phangsho showed composure in a crowded SAISC box and calmly placed the ball into the net.
The second half witnessed two more goals, one for each side. Bishesh Rai completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute with a brilliant solo effort. After receiving the ball near the post, he skillfully dribbled past the goalkeeper before scoring.
Despite conceding four goals, Sonapur Sports Association maintained an attacking approach and came agonizingly close to scoring at least three more goals. Twice, the woodwork denied them, and another attempt narrowly missed the target. However, their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Ballanstar Tado found the net.
