GUWAHATI: Assam suffered their third defeat on the Namibia tour, going down by 37 runs against a strong Namibia XI, largely due to a middle-order collapse that derailed their chase of a daunting 302-run target.
Chasing 302 in the 50-over match in Windhoek, Assam got off to a solid start, with openers Rishav Das and Subham Mandal putting up a promising 90-run partnership. Subham contributed a steady 35, while Rishav played a lone hand, scoring a gritty 93 off 101 deliveries, including ten boundaries.
However, once the opening stand was broken, the innings lost momentum. The middle order crumbled under pressure, failing to build on the platform laid by the openers. Despite a late effort from Ayushman Malakar (41) and Bhargav Lahkar (27), Assam failed to reach the target as they managed to score 264-9 in their 50 overs.
Earlier, Namibia XI posted an imposing total of 301 for 5. Captain, Gerhard Erasmus, led from the front with a blistering 109 off just 71 balls, laced with four fours and six towering sixes. He was well-supported by Malan Kruger (50) and Jan Frylinck (57), both of whom registered crucial half-centuries to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Among Assam’s bowlers, Avinov Choudhury emerged as the most successful, claiming 2 wickets for 71 runs in his 10 overs. However, the bowling unit overall struggled to contain the aggressive Namibian batting lineup.
In the five-match One Day Series Assam are now trailing by 1-3. The final match will be held on June 30,
