GUWAHATI:The Assam Women’s XI wrapped up their successful tour of Malaysia with a commanding victory in the fifth and final 50-over match in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, sealing a 5-0 whitewash in the series. After opting to bat first, Assam posted a competitive total of 208 in 49.5 overs. Opener Gayatri Gurung anchored the innings with a composed 92 off 123 balls, including six boundaries. She received solid support from skipper Rashmi Dey, who contributed 56 off 75 deliveries to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Malaysia’s bowlers put up a spirited fight. Ainna Hamizah Hashim impressed with figures of 5/33 from 9.5 overs, while Dhanusri Sri Muhunan added 3/40.
In response, Malaysia struggled to string together meaningful partnerships and were eventually restricted to 80 for 9 in 37.5 overs. Only Mas Elysa Yasmin (16) and Ainna Hamizah Hashim (15) reached double digits as Assam’s bowlers maintained a stranglehold throughout the innings. Leading the attack were Rashmi Dey (2/8), Mousumi Narah (2/12), and Nirupama Baro (2/15).
The emphatic win capped off a flawless campaign for Assam, who dominated all five matches on the tour.
Assam Cricket Association (ACA) President Taranga Gogoi and Secretary Tridib Konwar congratulated the team on their outstanding performance.
“This tour will be a defining experience for our girls,” said Gogoi. Konwar added, “The maturity and skill shown by the team are commendable. This experience will undoubtedly benefit them in the domestic season ahead.”
Individual awards for the series: Best Batter: Gayatri Gurung. Best Bowler: Nirupama Baro. Player of the Tournament: Rashmi Dey.
