GUWAHATI: DBI Sports Club made a dazzling start in the Kamrup Metro leg of the 70th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship, thrashing NRL Football Academy 5-1 in a group ‘A’ game at the SAI Field in the city today. The winners led 4-0 at halftime.

DBI, the former champions of the Guwahati Premier Football League, dominated the first half entirely. NRL’s defense looked vulnerable on multiple occasions whenever DBI increased their presence in the attacking third. However, DBI had to wait until the 27th minute to break the deadlock through Rahul Kalita. The side added two more goals in a span of three minutes, scored by Manjit Tari (39') and Jitu Ahmed (42'). L Aman Singh further extended the lead to 4-0 just before the break.

NRL showed significant improvement in the second half. They not only tightened their defense but also launched several attacks, managing to reduce the deficit with a goal by Damanglang Kharbyngr in the 75th minute. NRL had further opportunities to narrow the gap, but substitute Arbandelness Khongsni narrowly missed scoring twice.

Jitu Ahmed sealed DBI’s emphatic victory with his second goal of the match, securing the final scoreline at 5-1.
