GUWAHATI: The newly elected secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Devajit Saikia received a rousing welcome upon his return to Guwahati on Monday. Saikia has created history by becoming the first individual from Assam and Northeast India to hold this esteemed position in Indian cricket administration.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Saikia said, "This achievement is not just mine but belongs to all the sports-loving people of Assam. I am deeply thankful for the support and love of the people of Assam."
Saikia also emphasized the collective effort behind his success, acknowledging the contributions of various sports organisations such as Gauhati Town Club, Guwahati Sports Association (GSA), and Assam Cricket Association. He urged sports organisers in Assam to continue striving with determination and ambition in their respective fields.
A grand reception awaited Saikia at the airport, where representatives from the GSA, Assam Cricket Association, Gauhati Town Club, and other organisations gathered to honour him. Later, at the GSA office, he was celebrated with a ceremonial guard of honour by young cricketers, marking a proud moment for Assam's sporting community.
