KOKRAJHAR:  The 134th edition of the Durand Cup Football kicked off today with a colourful and vibrant opening ceremony at the SAI Stadium, Kokrajhar. The event was graced by Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri, BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, and former Bhutan Prime Minister Dr. Lothay Tshering as distinguished guests. Other guests of the inaugural ceremony includes- Minister UG Brahma, MP Joyanta Basumatary, BTC EM of Sports and Youth Welfare, Daobaisa Boro and other dignitaries.

In the inaugural match, ITBP emerged victory against Morning Star FC of Karbi Anglong by 2-1. One of foreign players of Morning Star FC was given red card and made out of the field before the half time. Morning Star FC scored the first goal in the 30th minute, but ITBP equalized it in the 40th minute. ITBP scored another goal in the 59th minute to seal the victory.

The inaugural programme featured spectacular cultural performances by local indigenous groups, showcasing the rich traditions of the region, along with special presentations by the Indian Army personnel, adding grandeur to the occasion. The fly fast of Sukho-30 MKI, helicopters and paragliding added the flavour of the match.

Kokrajhar is hosting six Group-D matches, with Bodoland FC (host team), Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC, Punjab FC, and ITBP FT vying for top honours at the venue.

Meanwhile, sources said that all tickets for the next match between hosts Bodoland FC and Morning Star FC to be held on July 31 have already been sold out in advance.
