GUWAHATI: The captain of Assam Cricket team Gokul Sharma announced retirement from Limited Overs cricket including T20 after his team ended campaign in Vijay Hazare Cricket in Chennai today. However he would continue to play day's matches.

Gokul, made debut in Limited overs Cricket in 2005 against Bengal, altogether played 65 matches and scored 1152 runs. He also picked up 34 wickets in this form of cricket. In the T20 Gokul represented Assam in 24 games (150 runs and 12 wickets).

Talking to The Sentinel over telephone from Chennai Gokul in his first reaction on retirement said, "I had left Guwahati to play this competition keeping retirement plan in my mind. I feel it is the right time to quit as good number of young players like Denish, Saahil… already lined up in the team and they just need little exposure to cement their place."

However Gokul confirmed that he would continue to play the day's game. "Yes, I would continue to play day's cricket and will continue as long I will enjoy it," said the batsman.
