GUWAHATI: Navajyoti Club and City Cricket Club registered dominant victories in their respective matches of the GTC Men’s Summer Challenge T20 Trophy held at Judges Field here today.
In the day’s opening encounter, Navajyoti Club, after being invited to bat first, posted a competitive total of 145 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Hrishikesh Tamuli anchored the innings with a well-crafted 57 off 41 deliveries, featuring five boundaries and a six. He was well supported by Nipan Deka, who contributed a quickfire 43 from 29 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Dhrubajyoti Das was the most successful bowler for Navarang Club, claiming two wickets.
In reply, Navarang Club was bowled out for a mere 91 runs in 19.4 overs, courtesy of a sensational bowling performance by Chanakya Sarma, who claimed six wickets for just 12 runs. Bishal Saha (27) and Dhrubajyoti Das (24) were the only notable contributors with the bat.
In the second match of the day, City Cricket Club, powered by a blistering knock from Rajjakuddin Ahmed, posted 156 runs in 19.4 overs. Ahmed scored a match-defining 63 off just 22 deliveries, smashing six boundaries and five sixes. Kokil Gogoi chipped in with a valuable 23. For Gauhati Town Club, Sumit Kashyap (3-14) and Bishal Sarma (3-27) shared six wickets between them.
Chasing the target, Gauhati Town Club fell short by 35 runs, finishing their innings well below the mark despite a valiant effort by Bishal Sarma, who scored 68 off 43 balls, including six fours and four sixes. However, he found little support from the other end. Rajjakuddin Ahmed, Rabi Chetri, and Kokil Gogoi each picked up two wickets to seal the win for City Cricket Club.
