GUWAHATI: With a plan to elevate its cricketing standards, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has arranged international exposure tours for both the senior men’s and women’s teams.
ACA Secretary Tridip Konwar revealing the news in a press conference said that the men’s team, led by captain Denish Das, will head to Namibia for a series of five One-Day matches. Meanwhile, the women’s squad, under the leadership of Uma Chetry, will travel to Malaysia for a similar five-match series.
Konwar also added. “It’s an exciting step forward for Assam cricket, and we’re confident that these tours will provide invaluable exposure to international cricketing conditions.”
As per the schedule the men’s team will depart for Namibia on June 18, with their five-match series scheduled for June 21, 23, 25, 27, and 29. All the matches will be held in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. On the other hand, the women’s team will play their series in Kuala Lumpur from July 7 to 15.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, who was also present in the media briefing, praised ACA for the move.
“Exposure to international teams is crucial for the development of our players. Competing against nations like Namibia and Malaysia will broaden their horizons and provide them with the opportunity to test themselves in challenging conditions,” Saikia commented.
He also cautioned both teams to stay focused and respect the abilities of their opponents, pointing out the competitive nature of both Namibia and Malaysia in the cricketing world.
The event also saw ACA’s joint secretary Rajinder Singh, treasurer Chiranjit Langthasa, and vice-president Rajdeep Oja along with other officials of ACA.
Meanwhile both team captains were visibly excited and thankful for the opportunity.
Men’s team captain Denish Das said, “This is our first time traveling abroad for competitive matches. It will be a great chance for us to bond as a team and sharpen our skills by playing in new and challenging conditions.”
Uma Chetry, women’s team captain, echoed similar thoughts, saying, “I’m thrilled with this initiative by ACA. It’s an incredible opportunity for us to grow as a team. We’ll focus on staying disciplined, embracing the challenge, and using this experience to prepare for the upcoming season with more confidence.”
