GOALPARA: Guwahati is in a strong position against Rangia in their second match of the Nuruddin Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament which got under way at Goalpara on Saturday.
In response to Rangia’s first innings total of 164, Guwahati ended Day 1 at 137 for 5, trailing by just 27 runs with five wickets in hand. Ronit Akhtar was the top scorer with 40 runs, while Sumit Ghadigaonkar contributed 23. At stumps, Abdul Ajij Kuraishi (27) and Hrishikesh Tamuli (20) were at the crease, looking to take their side past Rangia’s total on Day 2.
Earlier, Rangia, who were invited to bat first, were bowled out for 164 in 54.2 overs. Rohit Singh and Kunal Sarma led Guwahati’s bowling attack with four wickets each, returning figures of 4 for 43 and 4 for 61, respectively. Ratul Das (34), Dweep Jyoti Kalita (28), and Neelabh Sarma (23) were the main contributors with the bat for Rangia.
