GUWAHATI: After a frustrating wait due to two days of rain delays, the final of the Nurudidin Senior Inter District Cricket Championship finally kicked off today at the Nehru Stadium. Guwahati, invited to bat first, managed to put up a score of 182/7 in their first innings at stumps. The day witnessed a solid knock by Guwahati batter Saahil Jain and an impressive bowling effort from veteran spinner of NFRSA Swarupam Purkayastha.

The match, which had initially been scheduled for four days, had to contend with two washed-out days. But the action finally began today, with Guwahati’s batters looking to make the most of the opportunity. While the team’s overall performance was steady, it was Saahil Jain who stood out. The young batter played a composed innings, scoring a valuable 58 runs from 128 balls. His knock included two boundaries and three over-boundaries, helping Guwahati reach a respectable total in the face of some disciplined bowling.

Alongside Jain, Sumit Ghadigaonkar contributed with a steady 34 runs, providing some much-needed support in the middle order. However, despite these contributions, Guwahati’s innings could not gather momentum, and they finished the day with seven wickets down.

On the bowling front, NFRSA’s experienced spinner, Swarupam Purkayastha, was a thorn in Guwahati’s side throughout the day. Purkayastha bowled a marathon spell of 25 overs, taking 4 wickets for 57 runs. His accuracy and clever variations created problems for the Guwahati batters, who struggled to get away. Abhilash Gogoi also played a key role, finishing with figures of 2/36.
