GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) has selected 17 Under-19 footballers who will undergo advanced training at Marbella FC in Spain. These players were selected from a final-phase selection camp that concluded on Saturday at the SAI Training Ground in Guwahati.
The list of selected players was revealed during a press conference held at the Gauhati Town Club auditorium on Sunday. The trials, which began on May 26, were conducted under the supervision of former Indian national team captain and AFC Pro Licence holder, Renedy Singh, who served as the chief selector.
Speaking to the media, GSA Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “We invited Renedy Singh to ensure a fair and transparent selection process. His presence brought a great deal of credibility, and we are thankful for his time and insights.”
Renedy Singh, attended the press meet, acknowledged the tough competition among the 72 shortlisted players. “The selection process was challenging, but I did my best to remain fair. I was truly impressed by the skill and potential of these young players. With continued support from GSA, I’m confident they have a bright future ahead.”
The selection process was part of GSA’s broader initiative to identify talented U-19 players across the state through the prestigious Bordoloi Trophy.To facilitate international exposure and development, GSA has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with football management group Best of You. Under this agreement, the selected players will attend a 14-day high-performance training camp at Marbella FC, known for its world-class coaching infrastructure.
According to Saikia, the 17 selected players are scheduled to depart for Spain in the third week of July. The estimated cost of this initiative is approximately Rs 93 lakh, which the GSA is committed to bearing in order to ensure the players receive the best possible training and exposure.
GSA President Paresh Chandra Das and Football Secretary L. Pranab Singh were also present at the media briefing.
Selected players: Samujjal Boruah (Goalkeeper), Jurin Bordoloi (Stopper), Chandan Yadav (Stopper), Askhat Agam Acharjya (Mid Fielder), Biman Doley (Mid Fielder), Sasang Hengna (Mid Fielder), Azinur Rahman (Mid Fielder), Ripan Arya (Mid Fielder), Bibika Rabha (Mid Fielder), Ripu Narzary (Mid Fielder), Sarnong Teron (Goalkeeper), Roshan Dungdung (Striker), Jyotish Boro (Left Back), Hiteswar Kaman (Left Back), Sujit Koch (Right Wing), Fungbill Basumatary (Right Wing), Sawrav Kr. Dey (Defender).
