GUWAHATI: With an initiative from the Local Super Division clubs football is all set to return into the city after post COVID-19 break.

A Friendly Prize Money match is organized by a group of local club officials at the Judges' ground in the city on Thursday. The match would be held between Directorate of Sports XI and Guwahati Metro XI. Players from the different city based clubs will participate in the match.

Sharing the news in a media conference one of the key organizer of the game and noted sports organizer PulakGoswami said, "For the last ten months there were no football activities in the city. But we feel time has come to start it again."

There would be cash award also in the game. Winner of the match will receive Rs 10,000 and the other team will collect Rs 5,000.

The media briefing was also attended by the Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association LakhyaKonwar, Treasurer of Assam Football Association HirenGogoi and the Vice President of the Gauhati Sports Association ManjitBhagawati.

Lakhya advised the organizer to take all precautionary measures related to the COVID-19 during the game. He also requested Assam Football Association to ease the paper work so that organizers in the different districts can start football leagues and local competitions without facing too much problem.

Meanwhile Gauhati Sports Association is planning to host qualifying round and 'C' Division Football League shortly. However no decision on hosting the Super Division, 'A' Division and 'B' Division League is taken yet.

The general Secretary of the Gauhati Sports Association DhrubajyotiKalita, who also attended the media conference, informed that they were planning to host qualifying round and 'C' Division Soccer League very shortly. "However, the decisions to host the other leagues are yet to be taken as ground is not available right now,' said Kalita.
