GUWAHATI: "Really happy to be back after winning an Olympic medal for my country," said boxer Lovlina Borgohain after landing in New Delhi today.

Indian contingent, including medal winners Lovlina, Neeraj Chopra and others, returned home from Tokyo today displaying best ever performance in the history of Olympics. Later all the medal winners were felicitated in New Delhi this evening which was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju.

Lovlina, who participated in the welterweight category, won the bronze medal in Tokyo. It was the first occasion when an Assamese athlete brought a medal from the Olympics.

Several officials of the Boxing Federation of India including the Secretary General Hemanta Kalita were present at the airport to receive Lovlina. However the boxer was eagerly searching for a person and he was none other than her father Tiken Borgohain who flew to Delhi to meet the daughter.

Talking to the media persons at the airport Lovlina said, "It's really a happy moment for me that I am back after winning an Olympic medal for my country. Thanks to the entire nation for supporting me."

Although there would be a series of programmes for the medal winners during the next few days, the boxer is all set to arrive in Guwahati on August 12. The Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare would organize a felicitation function on the same day at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in presence of several top dignitaries including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Later Lovlina would return to Delhi on August 14 to attend the special function to be held on Independence Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi would interact with the athletes of the Indian contingent who participated in the Tokyo Olympics.
