Mayank wins National Chess title in National U-11 Chess Championship

GUWAHATI: Upcoming junior chess player Mayank Chakraborty of Assam, (a student of South Point School Guwahati) clinched the National U-11 Chess Championship 2019 which concluded at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi today.

Mayank becomes the only player from Assam to win the National U-11 Chess Championship from Assam and the second National Champion from the chess in chess.

Mayank scored 9.5 points in 11 rounds meet and finished clear champion with a half-point lead from second position holder. Another North East girl Arshiya Das from Tripura secured the third position with 8.5 points.

A total of 170 players in the Girls category and 268 players in the Open category participated in this chess championship organized by the All India Chess Federation from Nov 15-23. Both Mayank Chakraborty and Arshiya Das have qualified for the Asian and World U-12 Championship 2020.
