GUWAHATI: Naharkatia and Nagaon secured dominant wins in the Junior category of the Khelo India ASMITA State Hockey League, which kicked off at the Maulana Mohammad Tayabullah Hockey Stadium in Bhetapara on Thursday.
In an overwhelming display, Naharkatia crushed Bongaigaon 18-0, while Nagaon triumphed over Bhergaon with a 14-0 victory.
The opening day also saw two other matches: Silchar suffered a 0-4 defeat against Tezpur, and Makum emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over Dhemaji.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by DK Mittal, Executive Director of SAI Guwahati Center, in the presence of Pradeep Timung, Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Assam and Tapan Das, Senior representative of the Hockey India Executive Board.
The competition is being held in both sub-junior and junior categories, with a total of eight teams in each. The participating teams include Naharkatia, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Makum, Nagaon, Silchar, Bhergaon, and Tezpur. The junior final is set for March 23, while the sub-junior final will take place on March 26.
