Partha, Imtiaz elected in Sports Journalists’ Federation of India committee

SJFI held its AGM in Bhubaneswar on Sunday and elected a new executive committee for the next two-year term.

GUWAHATI: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) was held in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, during which a new executive committee was elected for the next two-year term.

Partha Chakraborty, Treasurer of the Assam Sports Journalists’ Association (ASJA), was elected unopposed as Joint Secretary of SJFI. Imtiaz Ahmed, Secretary of ASJA, was also elected unopposed as a member of the Executive Committee.

In other key appointments, Saraju Chakraborty, President of the Tripura Sports Journalists’ Club, was elected as the new President of SJFI, while V. Ramesh, Vice-President of the Telangana Sports Journalists’ Association, was elected as the Secretary. Sanjay Gharpure from the Sports Journalists’ Association of Mumbai was elected unopposed as Treasurer.

Meanwhile India’s first Grandmaster and chess icon, Viswanathan Anand has been chosen for the prestigious SJFI Medal 2024 for his outstanding contribution to the development of chess in India for a period of four decades. Anand will receive the SJFI Medal that has been previously bestowed upon greats of the country such as Vijay Amritraj, Prakash Padukone, Sunil Gavaskar, Milkha Singh (posthumous) and PT Usha.
