

GUWAHATI: The 39th Senior National Kyorugi and 12th Senior National Poomsae Taekwondo Champi-onship got under way at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium here today. Around 1,000 players from various parts of the country are taking part in the three-day Championship which will be concluded on Sep-tember 11.
The inaugural function was attended by Bolin Chetia, MLA of Sadiya and president of the All Assam Taekwondo Association as the chief guest and he also inaugurated the tournament. The opening ceremony was also attended by secretary of the Taekwondo Federation of India RD Mangueshkar, secretary of the All Assam Takewondo Association Hiranya Saikia, Executive Director of the SAI (Guwahati) Satyajit Sanskrit and others.
Addressing the gathering during the opening ceremony, secretary of the Taekwondo Federation of India RD Mangueshkar advised the participating players to work sincerely as the future of the game is in their hands. “You are the future and if you work sincerely the game will also progress in our country,” said Mangueshkar. He also added that India is going to host two international competitions very soon.
It may be mentioned here that seven best teams of this competition will qualify for the forthcoming National Games which is scheduled to be held in Goa from October 25.
