GUWAHATI: The JICA–India Women’s Leadership & Coaching Empowerment Program got under way at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati on Wednesday. The week-long program, organized by Sports and Youth Welfare Department in association with JICA and Nippon Sport Science University (Japan), aims to promote women’s leadership and participation in sports coaching.

Held under the theme “Becoming an Innovator to Lead Transformative Change in Sports Coaching”, the program focuses on empowering women in the sports sector, particularly in coaching and leadership roles..

The workshop is divided into two main segments- 1) Build leadership capacity among women to drive cultural and societal change through sports and 2) Enhance coaching effectiveness with a focus on autonomy, inclusion, and athlete growth.

The program is being led by Dr Masamitsu Ito, Professor at Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU) and Director of the NSSU Coach Developer Academy (NCDA). He is supported by a team of professionals with expertise in coaching education, facilitation, and program implementation.
