GUWAHATI: Renowned paracyclist Rakesh Banik is all set to embark on an inspiring bicycle expedition, “Volga to Brahmaputra,” aimed at promoting Assam Tourism, India Tourism, and the Fit India Movement. The journey will cover a challenging 9,000 km route from Moscow to Guwahati, showcasing Rakesh’s determination and resilience.
The expedition will officially begin in the first week of April 2025, with the flag-off ceremony at the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Rakesh will then cycle through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tibet, and Nepal, before reaching his final destination in Guwahati. This ambitious ride will not only highlight the beauty of Assam and India but also encourage people worldwide to embrace adventure, fitness, and perseverance.
Speaking to the media, Rakesh expressed his excitement and motivation, saying, “This journey is about breaking barriers and proving that no challenge is too big to overcome. It is an honor to represent India and Assam. Through this expedition, I hope to inspire others to pursue adventure, fitness, and never give up.”
The total duration of the journey is expected to be around 120 days. The expedition will require an estimated Rs 15 lakh in funding. Rakesh mentioned that he is still in the process of securing the necessary funds and is in discussions with various authorities.
The media briefing was also attended by several prominent figures, including Kumar Padmapani Bora, Secretary of Assam Tourism, Anil Arow, Retired Deputy Director General, Ministry of Tourism, senior journalist Pranay Bordoloi, Channel swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika, international motor-rider Minaxi Das and Director of Hotel Nandan Saswat Parth Sarma.
