Swimmers Win Assam’s First Medals at Khelo India Youth Games

GUWAHATI:  Swimmers brought home the first medals for Assam in the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) being held in Gaya. On the second day of the competition, Assam secured two medals—one gold and one bronze—thanks to the commendable performances by its swimmers.

Jananjoy Jyoti Hazarika clinched the gold medal in the 50m butterfly event, finishing with an impressive timing of 24.98 seconds. Meanwhile, Subhranshini Priyadarshini earned a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle event, clocking 2:12.78. Their victories have brought early pride to the state and boosted morale within the Assam contingent.

Meanwhile in women’s Kabaddi, Assam faced a tough challenge and lost to Tamil Nadu with a final score of 29-21 in a closely contested match.

In Gatka, Assam put up a strong performance and successfully qualified for the quarterfinals, showing promise in the traditional Indian martial art event.
