
NARAINPUR, CHHATTISGARH : Tripura climbed to the top of Group D in the Swami Vivekananda Men’s U-20 National Football Championship with a 2-1 win over Himachal Pradesh at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground on Wednesday. Mizoram also got their campaign off to a flying start, securing a dominant 4-0 victory against Maharashtra. Tripura now lead the group with six points from two matches. The match against Himachal Pradesh was closely fought, with all three goals coming in the first half. Naba Kishore Singha was the hero for Tripura, netting both goals for his side. His first goal came in the 11th minute with a composed finish at the near post after latching onto an aerial through ball from the left. Himachal Pradesh equalised in the 21st minute through Aryan Thakur, who slotted a well-placed left-footed strike past the keeper. However, Naba Kishore restored Tripura’s lead with a simple tap-in from close range, which proved to be the winner. Meanwhile, Mizoram began their campaign in style, thrashing Maharashtra 4-0. Lalhruaitluanga opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a long-range effort, followed by a second from Laldawngzuala soon after. F. Malsawmtluanga added the third goal with a beautifully curled free-kick from 30 yards just after the hour mark. Stephen Ngurchhuanmawia rounded off the scoring in injury time. With this emphatic win, Mizoram sit second in Group D with three points from one game. (Agencies)
