Bordoloi Trophy to kick off on March 24

The winner of this edition will get a cash award of Rs 2 lakh while the runners up will get richer by Rs 1 lakh.

Guwahati: The 68th edition of Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football will kick off on March 24. The matches in the group stage will be held at four different venues.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the president of the Gauhati Sports Association (GSA) Pulak Goswami said that this time altogether 16 teams including the NorthEast United FC, Shillong Lajong and Delhi FC will be participating in the tournament. It will be the maiden appearance for NorthEast United FC in the competition.

Guwahati will host Group A matches along with two semi finals and final. Judges Field will be the venue of all the games except one semi final which will be held at the Nehru stadium.

The three other venues of the competition are Korora in Baihata Chariali (Group B). Ghilakuri in Sipajhar (Group C) and Taikajhora in Chirang (Group D). Top ranked team in each group will qualify for the semi final. Both the semifinals will be played on April 1 and the final is slated for April 3.

As per the schedule ITBP will face Gauhati Town Club at the Judges' Field on the opening day. Daimali Club of Udalguri will face Assam Rifles, Shillong in the opening game at Korora on the same day. The other teams to be participating in the tournament are – ASEB SC, India Club (Silchar), Assam Police Blues, CISF, Oil India FC, Bodousa FC, United Chirang Duar FC, Nagaland Police and Assam Regimental Centre.

The media briefing was also attended by three top officials of the Gauhati Sports Association Dhruba Kalita (Secretary), Chaya Boro (Treasurer) and Khanin Dutta (Joint Secretary).
