PSPB Tennis Tournament kicked-off in Guwahati

Guwahati: The 40th PSPB Inter-Unit Tennis Tournament, hosted by Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), got underway at AATA Tennis Complex, Chachal today. The Tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest Subhash Chandra Das, Vice Chancellor, Assam Skill University in the presence of Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Director (Technical) and MD (I/C), NRL, Indranil Mittra, Director (Finance), NRL and Ankush Dutta, Secretary, AATA. Speaking on the occasion, Subhash Chandra Das reiterated the efforts of the Oil industry in promoting Tennis and mentioned that such tournaments are an assemblage of top national and international players. Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan welcomed all the players and thanked the AATA for providing the facilities for the tournament. He said that PSPB is a platform where young as well as senior players come and participate. A total of seven teams- BPCL, CPCL, HPCL, IOCL, OIL, ONGC and hosts NRL represented by around 50 players and coaches are participating in this 5-day tournament.

Results of the matches on Day I of the tournament: Men's team event (Quarter Final): OIL beat HPCL by (2-0), Udit Gogoi (OIL) beat Anup Toppo (HPCL) 6-0, 6-0, Chandrashekhar Mohanty (OIL) beat Raj Kumar (HPCL) 6-1, 6-0. ONGC beat NRL-B by (2-0), V M Ranjeet (ONGC) beat Subul Haloi (NRL-B) 6-1, 6-1, V M Ranjeet & Vishnu Vardhan (ONGC) beat Pranta P Singha & D Jaradhara (NRL-B) 6-1, 6-1. Veteran's team event (Quarter Final): HPCL beat CPCL (2-1), Ratul Borah (HPCL) lost against S Narendran (CPCL) 6-2, 6-7(3), 0-6, K Thirumurugan (HPCL) beat R Natarajan (CPCL) 6-2, 6-4, Ratul Borah & K Thirumurugan (HPCL) beat S Narendran & R Natarajan (CPCL) 6-2, 6-4. OIL beat IOCL (2-1), Hakim Ali (OIL) beat Pankaj Kr. Gangwar (IOCL) 6-1, 6-1, Siddharth Bharali (OIL) lost against Subhash Rajora (IOCL) 7-6(5), 5-7, 2-6, Hakim Ali - Ashim Bharali (OIL) beat Pankaj Gangwar - Subhash Rajora (IOCL) 6-2, 6-2.
