5 Killed By Suspected ULFA-I Terrorists In Assam's Tinsukia

DIGBOI: At least five persons were shot dead by suspected ULFA militants at a private dhaba along the road near the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge under Saikhowa police station in Tinsukia District at around 8 pm on Thursday.

According to the Tinsukia Superintendent of Police, the armed miscreants open fired from close range at the people playing ludo game at a dhaba killing five persons on the spot. A Tinsukia Police team led by Additional SP Prakash Sonowal was heading towards the spot till the filing of this report. The dead have been identified as Ananta Biswas, Abinash Biswas, Shyamal Biswas, Dhanai Nabasudra and Subal Das. It is apprehended that casualties might increase. A search operation is on to nab the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, strongly condemning the killing, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the situation will be dealt with strongly. “Killing of innocent people would not solve any problem,” said the Chief Minister. He has also directed Ministers Keshab Mahanta and Topon Kumar Gogoi as well as DGP Kula Saikia and ADGP Mukesh Agarwal to rush to the site for tackling the situation. He further directed all deputy commissioners and SPs to remain alert.
