Aadhaar Enrollment To Resume In Assam From September 1

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: Aadhaar enrollment work is going to resume in Assam from September 1, 2019. The GAD (General Administration Department), the State Registrar for Aadhaar enrollment, has already asked all deputy commissioners to resume Aadhaar enrollment work from September 1.

The Aadhaar enrollment in the State had to be put on hold from February 15 this year when the hearing of claims and objections of NRC applicants started. With approval from the Supreme Court of India, the Home and Political Department of the State collected biometric data of those who attended NRC hearing of claims and objections. Because of shortage of time, the Home and Political Department had to use the existing Aadhaar enrollment centres in the State for NRC purpose. With over 99 per cent biometric data of those attending NRC hearing on claims and objections already collected, the Home and Political Department kept only one Aadhaar enrollment centre each with it in each revenue circle office, and handed over the rest of the Aadhaar centres to the GAD. Now GAD is resuming Aadhaar enrollment work from September 1, 2019.
