All is not well with Assam Public Service Commission (APSC)

GUWAHATI: All is not well with the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission). An organization named – Fight against Injustice of APSC – said that the rot in the APSC is far from being stopped even as the government claims to have streamlined the functioning of the Commission.

Citing an example, the organization said that advertisements were published on November 19, 2019, for filling up the posts of 307 junior engineers and 156 assistant engineers in the PWD. While the screening test for the post of junior engineers is slated for March 22, 2020, that of the assistant engineers is to be held on April 5. According to the organization, the APSC issued a notice on March 6, 2020, stating that the screening test for the post of assistant engineers will be of 160 marks. The notice of the Commission, however, stopped short of specifying the total marks for the interview.

The organization wants to say that if the screening test for assistant engineers is conducted in accordance with 2019 4(D) Rule, the screening test would have been of 200 marks and a maximum of 12.2 percent of it i.e. 24 or 25 marks would have been for the interview.

Citing another example, the organization said that the interviews for the post of junior public relations officers and senior public relations officers are slated for March 26 and 27, 2020 respectively. The interviews, according to the organization, are conducted in accordance with Rule 2010 of the APSC according to which five or six candidates should be called against each post. The organization has, however, alleged that less number of candidates have been called for the interviews.

The organization has further said that the results of the combined competitive examinations (CCE), 2018 have been hanging in the air following a case filed in the Gauhati High Court. “We request the new APSC Chairman to take all these matters seriously or else the candidates will have no option but to move the High Court,” the editor of the organization, Manas Pratim Baruah, said in a press release.
