APSC SCAM: Gauhati High Court quashes 49 petitions

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday quashed the appeals of 49 appellants, all accused in the cash-for-job scam of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). The accused in the scam had been placed under suspension and then discharged from their jobs, after their arrest by the Dibrugarh Police. After being dismissed from their jobs by the government, the appellants demanded their reinstatement. Challenging the government’s decision, they appealed to the Gauhati High Court. The hearing was completed two months back. The bench of Justice Manjit Bhuyan quashed their appeals on Wednesday.

Some of the accused had interim stay orders on their discharge from jobs. The bench also recalled the interim stay orders against those accused. Thus their appeals also stand quashed.

Supreme Court advocate Maninder Singh assisted by advocate Nalin Kohli argued on behalf of the State government.
