DIBRUGARH: The headquarters of the one of the oldest tea groups of Upper Assam, the Assam Tea Company, will soon be shifted to the State. Disclosing this at a press meet held here at Maijan Tea Estate, Chairman of the BRS Group, BR Shetty — who purchased the Assam Tea Company on October 18, 2018 — stated that the financial condition of the company which comprises 15 Tea Estates, scattered in the different parts of the Upper Assam, is comfortable by overcoming all the challenges that had existed at the time of purchase. This was possible, Shetty said, due to the well-planned strategy and implementation of new machineries like ‘Drone’ and other techniques. The Head Office of the Company, he said will soon be shifted to Barbaruah, near one of its Tea Estate. “This will certainly help the company to run its activities more efficiently and also enhance local employment opportunities in direct and indirect ways.

BRS group Chairman Shetty, during conversation with the media also disclosed that the group will also set up a multi discipline super-specialty Hospital at the Barbarua area, which he believes will cater to the specialized health service needs of the tea communities as well as to the local people.

Referring the sorry state of the two paper mills — the Jagiroad Paper Mill and the Panchgram Paper Mill in the State — Shetty expressed his desire, if authority allows him to run the same. “A decision in this regard is welcome; and we will see how it could be materialized in the near future,” said Union Minister of State for Food Processing Department and MP Dibrugarh HPC (House of People Constitutency), RameswarTeli.

The Chairman of Tea Board of India, Prabhat Kamal Bezboruah, amongst others graced the occasion.
